St Mary’s Calne occupies a discreet and beautiful 27-acre site in the market town of Calne within the Wiltshire Downs, an area of striking beauty and historical significance including nearby Stonehenge, Avebury and Lacock Abbey. St Mary’s Calne shares its campus with St Margaret’s Prep. Founded in Calne in 1873, St Mary’s Calne moved to its current site in 1908 and recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. Part of the current site was previously a working lime quarry, one of the old lime kilns, a listed building, can still be seen on site. St Mary’s is a girl’s boarding and day school for 11 to 18 years. St Margaret’s is a day school for boys and girls aged 2 to 11 years. St Mary’s Calne has seven boarding houses providing accommodation for around 350 people in single and shared bedrooms. The excellent purpose built Sixth Form Centre’s 120 individual en-suite study rooms in particular provide an ideal base for residential lettings. Exceptional onsite facilities include a range of performance spaces including a theatre, rehearsal studios, classrooms, dining rooms, multifunctional halls, landscaped gardens ideal for a range of outdoor events, multifunctional sports pitches in addition to a flood lit astro turf, eight permanent tennis / netball courts and a sports centre with gym, climbing wall and 25-metre six lane indoor swimming pool. At the heart of the school is a stunning library, which won a leading architecture award, which can be used for seminars, workshops with the added benefit of a number of smaller rooms for breakout sessions. In house housekeeping and catering facilities are provided, and parking is available. The nearest train station is 15 minutes away in Chippenham. Residential lettings are available during some school vacations (typically in October half term, Easter and during the summer). Other lettings, particularly of sport facilities, may be possible all year round subject to operational constraints and availability. The campus is within easy reach of Bath, Bristol, Salisbury and Oxford and is just over an hour from London and so can be used as a base for wider exploration and education.
