Our 55 acres of landscaped ground in the village of Oxshott makes Danes Hill School a special and popular venue for a wide range of activities and events. The history of Danes Hill is an interesting one. The major impetus for the construction of the house was the opening of the railway line through Oxshott in 1884. The line came to Oxshott because Queen Victoria did not want it to pass too near to the royal residence at Claremont. As with the original building of Danes Hill, its transition from a private house to a private school is poorly documented, but we know that it opened its doors for business as a school in 1947 with 16 pupils. Since 1947 the school has developed its facilities and grown in size. At a glance, the Prep School facilities include 55 acres of beautiful and idyllic landscaped grounds, a 25 metre heated swimming pool, a full-sized competition Astro, 2 performance spaces with lighting rigs and sound systems, a new state-of-the-art sports hall which is marked out for 2 basketball courts and 2 netball courts. These can also be used to play indoor hockey and 5-a-side football. In addition, there are 8 badminton courts, which will be used for volleyball and mini tennis, and also 3 cricket nets. A 10-meter-high climbing wall and a mezzanine floor which houses the rowing machines and exercise bikes and in time will be a fully working gym.
